Crossways®
Sundays, 3:00 – 4:30 pm

Section 4 beginning September 11, 2011
meeting at Faith Lutheran Church
2206 Washington Road, Washington

[Crossways]The Bible tells us a long, intriguing story — and rewards those who dig deeply into it with an extraordinary surprise ending. Crossways® is the ultimate travel-guide for an unforgettable, in-depth journey through the Bible. Zion and several other local Lutheran congregations have embarked on this two-year , six-section study of the Holy Bible — and you are invited you join with us. Each section meets for 10 sessions. You are welcome to join us at any time, even if you have missed earlier sections and/or sessions.

The latest section, The Postexilic Period and Judaism, begins September 11. Here we cover the return from exile in Babylon, the rebuilding of the Jerusalem Temple, and the birth of Judaism with its hopes for a messiah! Participants will be reading from and learning about 1 & 2 Chronicles, the Psalms (and other Wisdom literature), Daniel (and Apocalyptic literature), as well as the writings from the period between the Old and New Testaments (the Apocrypha and the Pseudepigrapha). The stage is being set for the arrival of the Messiah... but not the kind anyone was expecting.

Upcoming sections are The Gospels and Acts — which will cover first-century Judaism; the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John; and Acts — and The Letters and Revelation, which covers St. Paul and his letters, the "Catholic epistles," and Revelation.

Via de Cristo
(The Way of Christ)

[Ultreya!]Several Zionites (including Pastor Tibbetts) participate in the Heart of Illinois Via de Cristo, which begins with a highly-structured 3-day weekend (Thursday evening through Sunday evening) designed to strengthen and renew your Christian faith and bring you to a new awareness of living the rest of your life (the "Fourth Day") in God's grace. A combined effort of lay people and clergy toward renewal of the church, Via de Cristo is a Lutheran expression of the Catholic Cursillo movement. Here in the Heart of Illinois, Via de Cristo is open to any adult Christian.

Since 1998 the Heart of Illinois Via de Cristo has offered 2 sets of weekends — one for men followed by one the next week for women — each year at East Bay Camp, Lake Bloomington, Illinois, in the Spring and Fall. This Fall's weekends are October 6-9 for men and October 13-16 for women. Please contact the Heart of Illinois Via De Cristo or click this national Via de Cristo link to learn about the movement near you.
